BIRDING Karringmelkspruit runs through a steep-sided gorge and the reserve was proclaimed to protect a roosting and breeding colony of the rare Cape griffon. Unfortunately this reserve is far too small to ensure this species' survival, simply because the birds range over great distances in search of food and are therefore vulnerable to poisoning. This species has lost ground throughout its range. It is strongly advised that you consult the authorities before visiting the reserve. Location: Extreme northern part of the region; south of Lady Grey. Access: Lies adjacent to the R58 (Lady Grey/Barkly East), 12 km from Lady Grey. It is advisable to check with the authorities before visiting this reserve. Accommodation: None. Other facilities: None. Open: Check with authorities.
